Graduations Top Fairfield's Week In News

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – It was graduation week in Fairfield, as seniors said goodbye to Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe even as the rest of the town still had one week of class to go. Here are some of the top stories from the last week in Fairfield.

? Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde held their graduations Thursday evening, in a ceremony moved up a week because of an unusual number of snow days. The rest of Fairfield’s public school students will finish the year on June 27.

? Aquarion customers around the area had their chance at a public hearing in Fairfield on Tuesday to protest a proposed rate increase. The utility is petitioning the state to allow for an increase of more than 18 percent later this year.

? A new business opened ion Black Rock Turnpike. Anytime Fitness is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

? Fairfield’s Board of Selectmen started talks on what to do with the Penfield Pavilion, which has been closed since it was damaged by Hurricane Sandy. One idea is to rebuild the pavilion with a deeper foundation and farther from the shoreline.

? Fairfield Police made many arrests this week, including a taxi driver accused of stealing a customer’s credit card, a man who asked to borrow a screwdriver to start a moped that had been reported stolen and a suspect with unregistered weapons, according to police reports.
