Get Ready for Fairfield's GOP Primary

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Do you plan to vote in Connecticut’s Republican presidential primary? If so, here are a few things Fairfielders should note before heading to the polls on April 24:

Connecticut is a closed primary state, meaning unaffiliated voters are unable to vote in primaries, and party members may only vote in their party’s primary. If you plan to vote in the Republican primary, you need to be registered with the Republican Party by noon on Monday, April 23.

Fairfield’s Registrars of Voters’ office is open between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The registrars will also hold a special session from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, to accommodate those looking to register before the primary.

If you are already a registered Republican, but won’t be able to head to the polls on April 24, you can apply now for an absentee ballot at the town clerk’s office. Absentee ballots are permitted if the voter will be out of town during all the hours of voting, if illness or disability prevents voting in person or if religious tenets prohibit secular activity on the day of election.

Voters must apply for an absentee ballot at the town clerk’s office, either in person or by mail. Once an application is on file, voters will be able to pick up a ballot and mail it or drop it off at Old Town Hall. All absentee ballots must be in the town clerk’s office by April 21 to count toward the primary.

Both the registrars’ and the town clerk’s offices are located in Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road. Old Town Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
