Forget To Shovel? Fairfield Sending $17K In Bills For Snowy Sidewalks

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield homeowners who found their sidewalks shoveled for them following the March blizzard could be hit with a bill from the town, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The town hired contractors to remove snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of nearly 100 homes following the big storm. The snow removal cost Fairfield just over $17,000. The cost of the snow removal will be passed on to the homeowner along with a $99 fine, the Fairfield Citizen reported.

Those who chose to ignore the fine could have a lien placed on the property, the Fairfield Citizen said.

The town began cracking down on violators after a Fairfield Ludlowe student broke her hip after she was struck by a car while walking to school in February 2015, the story said. She was walking in the street because the sidewalk was not cleared, the Citizen said.
