The town hired contractors to remove snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of nearly 100 homes following the big storm. The snow removal cost Fairfield just over $17,000. The cost of the snow removal will be passed on to the homeowner along with a $99 fine, the Fairfield Citizen reported.
Those who chose to ignore the fine could have a lien placed on the property, the Fairfield Citizen said.
The town began cracking down on violators after a Fairfield Ludlowe student broke her hip after she was struck by a car while walking to school in February 2015, the story said. She was walking in the street because the sidewalk was not cleared, the Citizen said.
