Flood Watch Hits Fairfield As Remains Of Storm Bill Rolls In

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A flood watch is in effect for all of Southern Connecticut and much of metro New York, including all of Fairfield County, as the remains of Tropical Storm Bill brings heavy rain to the region overnight.

The Flood Watch, which began 8 p.m. Saturday, is in effect into Sunday evening with an 80 percent chance of heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest rainfall into early Sunday and could cause widespread urban and small stream flooding, the Weather Service said.

Rainfalls totals will range from 1 to 2 inches but could be as high as 3 inches in some areas of heavier rain or in thunderstorms, the Weather Service said.

A large amount of rain could fall in a short period of time, leading to a sharp rise in water in small streams and poor drainage flooding on roadways and other urban areas.

It won't get much about the mid-70s or maybe 80 degrees this weekend, under cloudy skies Saturday and on a rainy Sunday for Father's Day.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding. Residents should monitor forecasts and be alert. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action. Motorists are warned to not drive into large puddles on roadways.
