Fairfield's Memorial Day Parade Steps Off Monday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Are you planning to head to Fairfield’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday? Here’s everything you’ll need to know:

The parade begins at the intersection of South Pine Creek Road and the Post Road. It will march east along the Post Road until it reaches the Fairfield Public Library. It will then turn and follow the Old Post Road until it reaches Town Hall Green.

All traffic will be cleared from the parade route at 9:30 a.m. All of South Pine Creek Road, South Benson Road and Beach Road will also be closed south of the Post Road. Fairfield police will enforce a temporary no parking zone around the parade route. Parking will be prohibited on the parade route, Reef Road from Oldfield Road to Crescent Road, and South Pine Creek Road north of St. Anthony’s Church.

The parade is scheduled to go on rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, an announcement will be broadcast by 6:15 a.m. on WICC-AM 600, WTNH-TV (Channel 8) and News 12.

Veterans who served in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War are invited to join the parade’s lead group. Those who were members of the military from Feb. 28, 1961, to May 7, 1975, who would like to march can meet at the Recreation Center parking lot at 85 Mill Plain Road no later than 9:15 a.m. No uniform is required.

Make sure to bring canned food, coffee, sheets, towels and toiletries to the parade. The Fairfield Rotary Club will have a truck run the route before and after the parade collecting items for Homes for the Brave’s Bridgeport chapter. The organization helps homeless veterans get safe housing and find work.

After the parade, head across the Town Hall Green to the Fairfield Museum and History Center. The museum will host its annual picnic with games for kids, free admission to the museum and hot dogs and hamburgers for sale from the Fairfield Kiwanis Club.
