Fairfielder Charged With Assaulting Her Mom

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield woman was charged with assaulting her 70-year-old mother Wednesday night, police say. Kathleen Mascia, 49, of Rodgers Road, pulled her mother's hair and left scratches on her arm, according to the police report.

The mother came to police headquarters just before 8 p.m. Wednesday to report that her daughter had attacked her during an argument. She told police the argument started over her daughter's dog, which the mother had given away while the daughter was admitted to a rehabilitation center.

The mother told police her daughter knocked a purse out of her hand and pulled her hair. When the mother reached for the bag, the daughter grabbed her wrist, leaving scratches, according to the police report. Mascia then locked herself in the bathroom.

When police arrived, Mascia told officers that she hit the bag while trying to grab a cell phone. She denied pulling her mother’s hair.

Mascia was charged with disorderly conduct and third-degree assault on an elderly person. She was released on a promise to appear in court Thursday.

During a pat down, officers found a foot-long bong hidden in the pants of one of the boys. A metal grinder and small amount of marijuana were also found. The 14-year-old was issued a juvenile summons for possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The older boy was charged with paraphernalia possession.
