Temperatures will begin an upward trend on Tuesday with a high near 90 degrees.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has also issued an Air Quality Action Day for Tuesday for coastal Fairfield County.
The Action Day, which will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., means that ground level ozone may approach or exceed healthy standards. Residents are warned to limit strenuous outdoor physical activity. Young children, older adults and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease may be especially sensitive to the effects.
The heatwave will peak on Wednesday with a highs expected to reach into the mid-90s.
Thursday and Friday will remain hot and humid with highs of about 90 degrees.
