FAIRFIELD, Conn. An underage Fairfield driver was charged with driving under the influence early Sunday morning. Brandon McBreairty, 19, of Schiller Road ran from a rollover accident on Congress Street, police say.
Neighbors found a Volkswagen Passat on its roof along the side of Congress Street just before 4 a.m. Sunday. Accident investigators believe the car was traveling too fast while making a left onto Morehouse Highway and tipped over. The car was unoccupied when police arrived, and there were no signs of blood or injury.
The cars registration was traced to McBreairtys Schiller Road home, police say. He was not at the house, but officers located him at a friends house on Rolling Hills Drive. He was checked by paramedics and refused to be taken to the hospital. Officers performed a field sobriety test, which McBreairty failed, according to the police report.
McBreairty was charged with driving under the influence and evading responsibility, and issued an infraction for traveling too fast. He was released on a $100 bond.
