FAIRFIELD, Conn. Another Democratic candidate has entered Fairfields race for the state House of Representatives 132nd District. Board of Education member Sue Brand announced her candidacy this week.
I understand the need for a delicate balance between smart investments and the economic realities that we, as taxpaying citizens, face every day, Brand said in a press release.
Brand has been a member of Fairfields school board since 2007, and was its chair from November 2009 to November 2010. Before that, she served as president of Tomlinson Middle Schools Parent-Teacher Association. She is also currently a member of the Board of Health.
Professionally, Brand worked as a cardiac intensive care nurse for 10 years. In her candidacy announcement she said her career has enabled me to decisively assess, plan for, and meet the needs of all Fairfield residents.
The 132nd District, which covers Fairfields coastal areas, is currently represented by Republican Brenda Kupchick. Kupchick won the seat in 2010 in a tightly contested race with Democratic incumbent Tom Drew. The former office-holder endorsed Brand as she announced her candidacy.
As a member of Fairfields Board of Education, Sue Brand has demonstrated the knowledge and commitment necessary to prepare our children for success in the 21st century economy, Drew said in a press release. More than ever, education is vital to succeed in our global information era, and Sue Brand has the know-how, work ethic and determination to effect positive change.
Brand is the second Democrat to announce a run for the 132nd District seat. Former options trader and current Greenwich firefighter Kevin Coyner entered the race in late March. The Fairfield Democratic Town Committee will officially name a candidate at its nominating convention in late May.
