FAIRFIELD, Conn.Fairfields Republicans are going to need to find a new leader in the towns legislature come November. Representative Town Meeting Majority Leader James Millington (R-9) announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election this fall.
After six years on the RTM and having been bestowed with the honor to serve as majority leader, it is now time for me to move on to pursue other opportunities, Millington said in a statement released Tuesday.
Millington was first elected to the RTM in 2005. He took over as majority leader in the fall of 2009, after Republicans gained 16 seats on the 50-member body to claim a 38-12 majority. Millington helped recruit many candidates that year and helped them campaign.
I was proud to be a member of the team that recruited our candidates in 2009, formulated a united platform and campaigned hard, Millington said. It is time for new leaders to emerge and formulate their agenda for the next two years.
Millington ruled out any direct involvement with RTM campaigns this fall. He did say he would remain active in Fairfield politics, and would consider other offices in the future. For now, I am fully focused on serving the remainder my term, Millington added. We still have four months left in this term and a lot of business to finish.
