"Fairfield was one of the hardest hit communities in our area, and we are happy to be able to provide this funding to help those still with unmet needs,” Merle Berke-Schlessel, president and CEO of the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County, said in a statement. “After insurance and FEMA funding, there are still many costs not covered that are keeping people from getting back into their homes.”
The Fairfield Storm Sandy Relief Fund is still accepting applications for financial assistance. Examples of the types of costs that the Relief Fund has covered include: temporary housing; storage costs; engineering, surveying or inspection costs; mold remediation; tree removal; minor repairs; and replacement of furnishings or personal property not covered by insurance.
Anyone wishing to obtain further information or apply for funding should contact the Fairfield Social Services Department at 203-256-3169.
