Fairfield Prepares To Hit Its Holiday Stride With Annual Shop & Stroll

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Carolers, ice sculpture and more are just some of the highlights planned for the third annual Shop & Stroll in Fairfield set for Thursday, Dec. 10.

Merchants in downtown and along Grasmere/Post Road East will stay open until at least 9 p.m., with many offering free hors d’oeuvres and seasonal refreshments for shoppers.

Carolers from Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe high schools and the Fairfield Ludlow Brass Ensemble will add to the festive air and several local restaurants will offer dinner and drink specials throughout the day.

“This is a great opportunity to support our local businesses and to get some of your holiday shopping done while enjoying a fun night out with family or friends,” said First Selectman Mike Tetreau.

The Town of Fairfield is co-sponsoring the event with the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and Fairfield-based Save the Children, a new sponsor this year.

Save the Children will offer shoppers a chance to to buy handcrafted gifts from around the world at a tent at 1189 Post Road in the Brick Walk. The group will also present an interactive virtual reality demonstration about its international charitable work.

World-renowned ice carver Bill Covitz of Cheshire-based Ice Matters will present a 90-minute ice-sculpting demonstration beginning at 6 p.m. on Sherman Green, turning a single block of solid into a holiday motif. More ice sculptures will be on display throughout downtown.

And the fun doesn’t end on Thursday. Those who still have some names on their gift lists can head to the Southport Merchants Association Annual Christmas Walk on Friday, Dec. 11.

Santa will arrive at Southport Village via fire truck at 5 p.m. and children will have chance to meet the jolly old elf in the offices of the Russell Agency.

“The Chamber of Commerce is happy to be partnering with the town on this festive event as it will give our businesses another opportunity to open their doors to the community, meet new customers from surrounding towns and together, help celebrate the holiday season with a wonderful shopping experience!” said Chamber President Beverly Balaz.
