Temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s all week, with heat indexes reaching as high as 100. Local health officials urge residents to stay in air-conditioned environments whenever possible. Other ways to cool off include taking cold showers or baths, wearing light, loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of fluids.

“The Town highly encourages residents to protect themselves by taking the necessary steps to prevent heat-related illnesses,” Tetreau said.

The hours of operation for the three cooling centers are:

? Main Library (1080 Old Post Road): Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

? Fairfield Woods Branch Library (1147 Fairfield Woods Road): Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

? Fairfield Senior Center (100 Mona Terrace): Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
