Fairfield Mom Accused of Shoplifting With Baby

Police caught a shoplifter in Fairfield Tuesday with an unlikely accomplice -- her 2-year-old daughter. Security at Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue saw Stacey Flanagan, 40, of Fairfield attempting to leave the store with more than $400 in groceries without paying, according to the police report. They detained her with her baby until Fairfield Police arrived.

Flanagan did pay for a collection of DVDs, cigarettes and lottery tickets at the customer service desk on her way out. But she did not pay for the $431.72 in groceries in her cart, or the $421 pricing gun belonging to the store. Flanagan told police she forgot to pay because she was in a rush to pick up her other child from school.

Police charged Flanagan with fifth-degree larceny, and released her at the scene on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 27.
