Fairfield Man Charged in Jennings Skate Park Fight

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield police have made a second arrest in connection with the fight involving an off-duty police officer at the Jennings Beach Skate Park earlier this year.

Alexander Dacosta, 20, of Warwick Avenue, Fairfield, was charged with a breach of the peace and reckless endangerment Friday.

The original incident occurred March 8 at the South Benson Road park. An off-duty Trumbull officer told Fairfield police he witnessed Dacosta and two passengers driving recklessly in the parking lot. The car was “doing doughnuts,” racing with another car, and swerved within feet of children sitting near the park, according to the man’s report.

The officer identified himself as a police officer and went to talk to the people in the car. He asked Dacosta to take the keys out of the ignition, and when he refused the officer reached in to take them out himself, police said. Dacosta then hit the man’s arm repeatedly while a juvenile passenger got out of the car and shoved the man in the back, according to the police report. The three then got into a verbal argument and began shoving each other, police said.

The juvenile involved was charged with a breach of the peace April 11. Dacosta was arrested on a warrant Friday. He was released on a promise to appear in court May 14.
