During the meeting, town officials and representatives from the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will give a presentation. A question-and-answer session will also be included after the presentation.
“I encourage residents to attend this important session to learn more about this grant program,” First Selectman Mike Tetreau said in a statement. The session will give residents the opportunity to ask questions about potential eligibility and they can receive information required to submit an application to the town, he said.
The flood Hazard Mitigation Grant Program is administered by the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security to assist homeowners with the cost of elevating their homes above the base flood elevation to reduce potential flood losses, Tetreau’s notice said. The program is for primary residences allowing homeowners to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures to help reduce the risk of future flood damage and loss of property, according to the release.
Awards for the grant will be given on a competitive basis. Up to 75 percent of the cost of elevating a home could be reimbursed as a result of the program. Interested homeowners must submit all required materials before Friday, Oct. 18.
The information session will take place in the second-floor conference room in the Board of Education building, at 501 Kings Highway East in Fairfield.
