Fairfield Hit-and-Runs Lead To Chase

Antonio Fuentes of Bridgeport almost got away with allegedly causing two car accidents along Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield on Tuesday morning. He was driving a friend’s car at the time, police say, and might have avoided the charges. But the first driver Fuentes reportedly hit chased him all the way to Norwalk before police caught up with him.

“There’s a possibility we could not have identified [Fuentes] if the victim had not followed him,” said Fairfield Police Sgt. Suzanne Lussier.

According to the victim, Fuentes, 40, struck another car at Black Rock Turnpike and Candlewood Road at about 7 a.m. Tuesday and fled. The other driver gave chase and saw Fuentes collide with three other cars at Black Rock Turnpike and Stillson Road. The victim also told police that Fuentes hit his car again when backing away from the second accident. Both collisions were minor, and nobody was injured.

Fuentes continued on to the Merritt Parkway as the first victim continued to follow. Connecticut State Police pulled Fuentes over near Exit 40 in Norwalk. Police found he was driving with a suspended license, and Bridgeport police had a warrant out for his arrest on a charge of failing to appear to court.

Fairfield police charged Fuentes with two counts of evading responsibility, following too closely, unsafe backing up and driving with a suspended license. He was still in police custody as of 10 a.m. Tuesday.
