FAIRFIELD, Conn. Another candidate has entered Fairfields race for the state House of Representatives. The Republican Town Committee chose educator Chris DeSanctis as its nominee for Fairfields 133rd district seat.
There are many important issues that need reform but at this moment, none is as critical as lowering our high cost of living, controlling unnecessary state spending and creating employment opportunities in Connecticut, DeSanctis said in a press release. This is why Im running. Many people are working more than one job if they have one and they still cannot save for the future.
DeSanctis currently is the headmaster of Grace Christian School in Stamford, having taken the position before the start of the school year. He is an adjunct professor in Sacred Heart University's Department of Government and Politics. He also teaches Social and Behavioral Science at Norwalk Community College.
DeSanctis was a member of Fairfields local legislature and the Representative Town Meeting until last November. He chose not to run for re-election in the most recent race. At the state level, he previously served on the Metro-North New Haven Rail Commuter Council and the state Property Tax Cap Commission.
The 133rd district currently is represented by Democrat Kim Fawcett, who has had the post since 2006. Fawcett announced she would run for re-election in February.
The districts voters will be different in this election from Fawcetts previous re-election bids. The state redistricting committee redrew the boundaries of the House of Representatives districts last fall. The 133rd, which used to cover portions of Fairfield and Westport, now covers only Fairfield. The district now is mostly contained in Fairfields eastern sections, including the Stratfield, Grasmere and Holland Hill neighborhoods.
In his campaign announcement, DeSanctis said his priority in Hartford would be to balance spending as Connecticut citizens work longer to cover their tax burden for the entire year than residents of any other state nationally.
As State Representative, I will work hard to bring common sense back to Hartford by advancing the idea that government just like individuals should spend no more than it makes, he added.
