Fairfielders are due to get relief from this heat wave Friday. But for now, they still have to deal with temperatures of more than 90 degrees for another afternoon. To beat the heat, you could follow the lead of Stefanie Greenberg, who took her 3-year-old daughter Ruby to Gofer Ice Cream on the Post Road for a cooling snack Thursday.
Here are some other recommendations for dealing with the warmth, from the Fairfield Health Department:
? Stay indoors and in air-conditioning whenever possible. Both branches of the Fairfield Public Library and the Fairfield Senior Center are open, air-conditioned and free for the public.
? Try taking a cold shower or bath, or head to the shoreline for a swim.
? Drink as many fluids as possible. Avoid drinks with sugar, caffeine or alcohol, as those can make you lose water more quickly.
? Wear lightweight, light-colored and loose-fitting clothing. If you head outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen.
? Dont forget to check regularly on people with high risk of heatstroke: infants, young children and the elderly.
? Never leave a child or a pet unattended in the car, even with the windows rolled down.
