Yet another candidate has officially stepped forward in this Novembers municipal elections. Republican Board of Finance member Christopher DeWitt announced Tuesday that he will seek re-election to his post this fall.
Experience and knowledge matters on the Board of Finance. My record and dedication to the position underscore my commitment to the taxpayers of Fairfield and our community," DeWitt said in a statement. "The last four years have been some of the toughest budget years to face Fairfield and our country, and I believe Ive represented the best interests of all my constituents. But my work is not yet complete.
DeWitt, a Fairfield resident since 2002, will finish his first four-year term on the board this November. He is the boards secretary. As a member of the Board of Finance, he is one of nine people responsible for approving all financial matters for the town government, including setting the tax rate and setting up the towns yearly budget.
An engineer by trade, DeWitt has worked at Sikorsky Aircraft for more than 25 years. Because of his background, he serves as the Board of Finances representative on the Town Facilities Commission, which is responsible for maintaining all town-owned buildings and infrastructure.
DeWitt holds a degree from Fairfield University in mechanical engineering, as well as four U.S. patents. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard, finishing his time in the military in 1987 at the rank of staff sergeant.
