Fairfield Driver Charged With Vehicular Assault

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Police filed additional charges against a driver in connection with an accident involving a pedestrian last month in Fairfield. Kristin Osterberg, 34, currently of Wormwood Road, was charged with vehicular assault Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at about 7:50 p.m. on March 30. A Trumbull man crossed the intersection at Tunxis Hill Road and Villa Avenue when Osterberg struck him with her car, according to police reports. The man was thrown onto the car’s hood and then pushed about 40 feet into the roadway. He was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for life-threatening injuries, but has since recovered.

Officers reported that Osterberg smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, according to police reports. She also failed a breathalyzer test, police say. At the time she was charged with driving under the influence, her second charge for that violation in as many months in Fairfield.

After an investigation, police decided to charge Osterberg with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and filed for an arrest warrant. She turned herself in at police headquarters Tuesday. She was held on a $25,000 bond and taken to court later in the morning.
