Fairfield Cops Charge Man for Drugs in Rental Car

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – An Easton man was charged with drug possession Friday afternoon after returning a rental car with two baggies of PCP, police say. Matthew Gromiller, 40, of Bayberry Lane, was also found in a hotel room with more of the drug, according to the police report.

Employees at Hertz Rental Car told police that Gromiller returned a vehicle to the business in “filthy” condition. When they sent it to a local car wash for cleaning, a worker at the wash found two bags with a white powder inside, police say. Officers tested the substance and found that it was PCP.

Gromiller was staying at the Fairfield Motor Inn on Black Rock Turnpike. Officers arrested him at his room in the motel Friday afternoon. During a search officers found more narcotics in the room, according to the report.

A total of 28 grams of PCP was seized, police say.

Police also found that a woman staying in the same room had an active warrant for her arrest. Ana Kurowski, 41, of Tunxis Hill Road in Fairfield, was arrested for a failure to appear in court relating to charges from Connecticut State Police.

Gromiller was charged with three counts of illegal manufacture or sale of prescription medication, and three counts of drug possession. He was held on a $50,000 bond, and is due in court on Jan. 31.
