Fairfield Cop Nabs Stabbing Suspect

A man wanted for stabbing his ex-wife in the chest was arrested early Tuesday when an alert Fairfield police officer spotted him at 5 a.m. at a rest stop in I-95. Lt. Jeff Bloch noticed a car matching the description of the suspect, Jasapersaud Hariprashad and called for backup. Fairfield, Stratford and State police responded, waited for the suspect to start his car and then boxed him in. He was arrested without incident.

Hariprashad, 37, of Bridgeport, had allegedly stabbed his ex-wife outside of Wal-Mart in Stratford around midnight on Tuesday. Police said he confronted the woman and demanded to know who she was dating. When she refused to say, he stole her keys, went to his car, retrieved a knife and stabbed her. The victim was able to convince Hariprashad to drive her to Bridgeport Hospital, where he dropped her off around 1 a.m. and fled. Police said her injuries were not life threatening.

Hariprashad was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, carrying a dangerous weapon and criminal violation of a protective order. He was held on $1 million bond and scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Wednesday.
