Luke Gatti, 19, of Bayville, N.Y., was charged with breech of peace and trespassing in the incident, which was captured on a cellphone by a fellow student and became a viral video.
Gatti was to apply for accelerated rehabilitation in the Rockville courtroom, the Courant said. If accepted into the program for first-time offenders, his court file would be sealed and he would be required to meet certain conditions.
Gatti was arrested Oct. 4 after arguing with staff, demanding food, and becoming physically and verbally abusive to the staff. The confrontation ended as he shoved a manager. Police arrived on the scene as he was wrestled to the ground and arrested, the video shows.
The former student, later issued an apology to the staff via video (especially to the manager, he says), students and his friends and family, who he says he disappointed.
"When I watched the video a few days later, I couldn't even believe it was me," Gatti says in the video. He admits he was "very intoxicated" when the incident occurred. "What the hell is wrong with me? ... I'm ashamed."
According to police, the altercation began after Gatti had been refused service because he was drunk and had an open container of alcohol in the campus building.
A UConn spokesman confirmed last month that Gatti is no longer enrolled at the university.
