Driver Charged with Carrying Pistol in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport man was arrested on weapons charges in Fairfield Sunday after he was found to have a pistol in his car without a permit, police say. Brendon Pascal, 23, was charged after a traffic stop on Kings Highway East just after midnight on New Year’s Day.

A Fairfield Police officer saw Pascal swerve from the left lane to make a sudden right turn on Brentwood Avenue, according to the police report. The officer followed him to Kings Highway East and pulled him over. During an interview, Pascal reached into his jacket pocket. The officer later found a loaded .380 caliber automatic handgun in the pocket. Pascal did not have a permit for the pistol, police said.

Pascal was charged with carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle and carrying a gun without a permit. Police also found that he had warrants for his arrest from Bridgeport Police for failure to appear in court and failure to pay or plea for previous arrests. He was held on a $1,000 bond and is due in court to face charges on Jan. 9.

Paul Parfitt, 53, of Edgehill Place was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident at Tunxis Hill Park early Tuesday morning, police say. Police found a car crashed into a tree at the Melville Avenue park at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. The car had driven over a curb, off the road and across a nearby lawn before damaging a fence, police say.

The driver was not found at the scene of the accident. Police traced the registration to Mercedes-Benz of Fairfield, which told officers the car was given to Parfitt as a loaner. When officers found him, he told police that he needed to swerve out of the way from a car that had driven into his lane.

Parfitt was charged with evading responsibility and failure to drive right. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is due in court on Jan. 17.
