"Chuck," as he was known to his friends, was born in Bridgeport on Dec. 20, 1929. He graduated from Fairfield Prep in 1947 and was among the first to enroll at Fairfield University. While there, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve program. After earning his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1958, he interned at Bridgeport's St. Vincent's Hospital. After a residency in New York's St. Vincent's Hospital, he returned to Bridgeport to start his practice as an OB/GYN.

He became a partner in the OB-GYN Specialty Group of Bridgeport and was a founding member of the OB-GYN Society of Bridgeport. He also served patients at St. Vincent's, Bridgeport Hospital and Park City Hospital until his retirement in 1982.

McCullough was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield and a co-founder of the St. Patrick's Day Scholarship Fund. He volunteered his time and served as a longtime board member of the Southport Woods Condominium Association as well as the homeowner's associations at Point Arundel in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Terres Basses at St. Martin, in the French West Indies, where he maintained homes.

McCullough had an appreciation for music and the performing arts and enjoyed traveling the world. His beloved golden retriever, Sybil, always joined him.

He is survived by cousins Marilyn Wilhelm and Carol Wanzie, both of Florida, and their families. McCullough's friends gratefully acknowledge the compassionate and loving care of his caregiver, Lupita.
