Death Of Facebook COO's Husband Points To Treadmill Risks

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The recent death of Dave Goldberg, an entrepreneur and the husband of Facebook's chief operating officer, is leading experts to question the risks of using treadmills and technology while exercising, according to a report by Washington Post.

Goldberg was found bleeding after he slipped and fell while using a treadmill machine at a Four Seasons Hotel near Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. He hit his head and died from brain trauma and blood loss, the report said.

Although Goldberg's family has not said what caused his death, evidence is emerging that the treadmill and technology may have played a role in his death, the report said.

Data suggests that as high-powered treadmills become more popular, digital distractions also make machines more dangerous, the report said.

According to data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, 19,000 people went to emergency rooms in 2009 due to treadmill injuries, including nearly 6,000 children, the report stated.
