Connecticut Tank Removal demonstrated its new snow-melting equipment - the Snow Melter - on Friday in Fairfield. Town officials and the public were invited to take a peek at the process.
The removal method — which can melt 300 cubic yards, or 60 tons of snow per hour — is popular at airports and in big cities. And the town of Fairfield sees its value.
"It can be useful anywhere there's a lot of traffic, so you don't stockpile snow," CTR President Joe Palmieri told Daily Voice. "It can be used at malls, school parking lots, etc. Once you have to remove the snow, this becomes practical."
"We think it's a good option," Fairfield Director of Public Works Joe Michelangelo said. "It's a good alternative to getting rid of the snow in a downtown area. Removal is very costly, so this is more cost effective, and has less impact on the town overall."
