The software change is necessary in order to further enhance the security features of the game, the CT Lottery said in a statement.
The CT Lottery discovered that the terminals were being misused by some retailers in the 5 Card Cash game’s instant component. The state Department of Consumer Protection believes some retailers may have intentionally manipulated the reporting mechanism on the terminal for their own personal benefit.
“The department is investigating the matter," DCP Commissioner Jonathan A. Harris said.
CT Lottery President and CEO Anne Noble explained that “integrity is paramount, and this temporary suspension, an unusual step, allows us to bring the game back in a very short period of time.”
Players with winning 5 Card Cash tickets, including for the Nov. 13 drawing, will be able to cash their tickets as soon as sales resume, which may be as early as next week. No other lottery games are affected.
