Connecticut Power Rates to Drop in 2012

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Whether or not you lost power in 2011, you will pay lower rates for electricity in 2012.

Rates for Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminated residential customers will go down on Jan. 1, the state's Public Utilities Regulatory Authority says.

The average CL&P customer could save about $9.39 a month compared to 2011 and $18.67 compared to 2010. The average United Illuminating customer could save about $13.96 a month compared to 2011 and $16.44 compared to 2010, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority says.

"Approximately 53 percent of Connecticut’s 1.5 million residential customers take standard service generation from CL&P and UI. The remaining residential customers have opted to have their electricity provided by other approved electric suppliers, which can further reduce generation rates for consumers," the Authority says on its website.  The Hartford Courant reports that Connecticut had the highest electric rates in 2011.
