MTA officials said a coding problem allowed 2,828 Metro-North commuters to receive faulty MetroCards via the commuter rail's mail and ride program. The problem was more widespread with Long Island Railroad commuters with an estimated 7,153 customers impacted by the glitch, LoHud.com reported.

For the time being, MTA officials said commuters can show their monthly pass to any subway attendant or bus operator and they will be allowed to ride, LoHud.com said.
