FAIRFIELD, Conn. - "Minute" quantities of a chemical were spilled from a metal working business on Commerce Drive near Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield Thursday morning, officials say.
The nearby Fairfield Metro train station is closed.
Though officials said the amount of gallium trichloride released were too small to be toxic, people in nearby homes are urged to stay inside. Officials say the business's exhaust system became over-pressurized.
Some nearby businesses have been evacuated and parts of Commerce Drive were closed near the Black Rock Turnpike as of 11:45 a.m.
Police and fire officials on the scene said they hope to have the incident cleared up by 1 p.m.
