Car Found on Train Tracks in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A running, unattended car was left on the train tracks near the Fairfield Center station early New Year’s morning. The car’s driver and a passenger were found in a wooded area nearby and taken into custody by Metropolitan Transit Authority police, according to Fairfield police.

Witnesses from the Fairfield Theatre Company on Sanford Street called police to report the incident at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday. The driver had backed up an SUV from Carter Henry Drive onto the southernmost train track and fled. Police found the car just west of the New Haven-bound train station platform.

The incident delayed train service. Neither the vehicle nor any trains were damaged, but the car knocked down a chain fence along the tracks. A couple was found in the woods nearby and turned over to MTA police.
