FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield Police had two close encounters with car burglary suspects in the Stratfield area of town early Tuesday morning and late Tuesday night. But they were unable to make any arrests.
Two burglaries were reported at neighboring Jackman Avenue homes Tuesday. Both occurred at unlocked cars parked in the driveway. A GPS system was taken from each car, and an iPod shuffle was also stolen. Police believe the burglaries happened between about midnight and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
A Fairmont Terrace resident reported a pair of suspicious people in the same area during the same timeframe. At about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, the resident saw two men wearing dark clothing walking across yards in the neighborhood toward Jackman. Officers responding to the call reported seeing a shadowy figure farther down Fairmont, but the suspect was gone before police could catch up.
Another resident told police that another suspicious person was spotted near the intersection of Old Stratfield Road and Melville Avenue late Tuesday night. The man was walking down Old Stratfield, lifting door handles to see if they were unlocked, according to the witness. No burglaries were reported in the area so far.
The suspect was gone by the time police arrived. He is described as a tall white or Hispanic male, with a thin build. He was wearing a dark coat, baggy jeans and a baseball cap. Anyone with information on suspicious sightings or burglaries should contact the Fairfield Police at 203-254-4800.
