Dee Dee Brandt knows that in the bad economy it's tough for graduates to find work straight out of college. Brandt, a Republican candidate for the 133rd House District that includes parts of Fairfield and Westport, wants to hear from people in that situation. She and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, will host a career roundtable Wednesday at the Pequot Library.
"Hosting an event like this is important and close to my heart because I was initially motivated to run for the state Legislature when I saw many of my children's friends, all of whom are college graduates and very smart, struggle to find a job following graduation and it really bothered me," Brandt said in a statement. "I want to help other young adults and those who recently graduated from college have the tools to get them working."
The seminar will focus on the "Brain Drain"Connecticut's recent graduates leaving the state for more affordable housing and employment. The two invite recent college graduates and job-seekers to attend and share their thoughts on the issue.
Boughton is the running mate of Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley. Brandt is challenging incumbent Kim Fawcett, D-Fairfield, for the state House seat. The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., Southport. For more information, call (203) 255-6988.
