Get In Last-Minute Stumping

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — It’s going to be a busy Tuesday afternoon for David Becker, Robert Bellitto Jr. and Hugh Dolan. The polls opened at noon for the Fairfield Republican Town Committee’s caucus, and voters have until 8 p.m. to pick the party’s candidates for town offices in November. The three men gunning for the nomination for first selectman were bouncing around the town’s 10 polling places to drum up support.

All three also enlisted their families to help. Jim and Mary Hanley, Bellitto’s in-laws, drove down from New Fairfield to stump for the Board of Finance member at the Fairfield Senior Center.

“If a mother-in-law okays him, he has to be a good guy,” Mary said of Bellitto. “I admire him most of all for his integrity and his respect.”

Becker’s wife, Erica, was also at the Senior Center campaigning for her husband, currently a member of Fairfield’s Representative Town Meeting. Becker himself stopped by the District 1 polling center early Tuesday afternoon on his tour around town. Becker said he’s going to be at each voting location throughout the day to answer constituents' last-minute questions about his policies.

“That’s the big thing, for me,” Becker said. “I’m here—ask away.”
