Bus Brouhaha Ends in Arrest

Kailas Patel was apparently not happy with where the city bus left her Thursday afternoon. So she found an interesting way to get the bus to stop. Patel, 64, of Bridgeport caused a delay on the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority's Post Road route after grabbing the vehicle's driver during an altercation.

According to the driver, Patel rang the signal bell, and when the bus stopped at Post Road and Grasmere Avenue, she began arguing with the operator before exiting and reentering the vehicle. After the bus apparently passed her destination, she began arguing with the driver again, demanding her employee ID number and grabbing her shirt. Fearing for her safety, the driver stopped the bus and called the police.

One passenger on the bus received treatment at the scene for a bump on the head. The sudden stop caused him to slam into the seat in front of him. He declined the offer to be taken to the hospital. The cops charged Patel with breach of the peace, and released her on a promise to appear in court Sept. 20.

? Jonathan Wetmore, 22, of Trumbull was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at Fairfield University early Friday. While checking on another matter, one of the school's public safety officers was allowed inside a townhouse. He found Wetmore at the kitchen table, rolling a joint, with a bag of marijuana and rolling papers beside him. Because he was not a student, the officers turned him over to the Fairfield Police, who issued a misdemeanor summons and warned Wetmore to stay off campus.
