Burnt-Out Car Light Leads to 3 Fairfield Arrests

Fairfield Police netted three arrests at once early Tuesday morning, all because of one burnt-out light bulb.  Bridgeport residents Dennis Williams, 22, Brittany Verneret, 18, and Roswell Menefee, 19, were arrested on  warrants after police stopped their car because its rear license plate was not lighted.

At about 2:22 a.m., an officer noticed the unlighted plate  while following the car on Tunxis Hill Road and pulled it over. While approaching, the officer saw Williams, the driver, and Veneret, the front passenger, attempt to switch seats. A records check revealed Williams was driving with a suspended license.

The check also showed that Williams had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. Two were for failing to appear in court for previous drug charges, and the third was for a violation of his probation. Police also charged him with motor vehicle violations for driving with a suspended license and failing to display the rear license plate. He was held on a total bond of $54,000 and is due in court Jan. 18.

Veneret also had a warrant out for her arrest, also for failing to appear in court. She was arrested and held on $1,500 bond and is due in court Jan. 18.

The officer then searched the car and found a plastic bag containing marijuana and a used cigar. Menefee, who was riding in the back seat, admitted the drugs were his. He was charged with possession of marijuana and released on a promise to appear in court on Jan. 18.
