Burglars Strike at Fairfield Train Station

Burglars at the Fairfield Train Station were at it again Monday. The target? GPS systems left in locked cars. Two commuters, one parked on each side of the train tracks, told Fairfield police that suspects smashed their driver's side windows to take the electronics, which were left in plain view inside.

The owner of a 2007 BMW parked his car on the north side lot at 7:15 a.m. and returned at 3:30 p.m. to find the window broken and his Garmin brand GPS missing. The GPS is valued at $30, and the repairs on the window will cost an estimated $500.

The other driver left his 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the south side of the train tracks at 10 a.m. and returned at 4 p.m. to find the same scene. The car's window was broken, and his $150 Garmin Nuvi GPS system was missing.

Police were investigating both break-ins. In the past few weeks, burglars have broken windows to take electronics from vehicles parked at the train station, local gyms and even people's driveways. Police warn residents to hide all valuables from view when parked for long periods of time.
