Bud Jennings, Ex-Owner of Driftwood Lounge

EASTON, Conn. ? Clarence “Bud” Jennings Jr., Easton activist and former owner of the Driftwood Lounge in Fairfield, died on Sunday, Nov. 20. He was 76 years old. 

Born in Westport, he was a lifelong area resident. Jennings was a 1953 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, where he met his future wife, Caroline. Together they raised five children in Fairfield and Easton. Jennings was also the former owner of Stamford Millworks, LLC.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge #2220 in Fairfield, the Easton Lions Club, the National Rifle Association and Citizens for Responsible Government.  He was also a Freemason and a justice of the peace.

For decades, Jennings served as a coach, scout leader and volunteer. He loved sports, especially the Red Sox, and was a season ticketholder for UConn women’s basketball. He was also an animal lover and championed the construction of a new animal shelter in Easton. Bud loved life, his family and his community and will be remembered for his sense of humor, his tenacity and his intelligence.

He was predeceased by his wife, Caroline (Binkiwitz) Jennings. Survivors are five children, Cynthia L. Long and her husband, Gary, of Oxford, Cathleen P. Murphy and her husband, Charles, of Southbury, Cheri Coleman and her husband, John, of Trumbull, Clarence “Bud” Jennings III of Stratford and John C. Jennings and his wife, Paula, of Hobart, Ind.; his brother, Richard Jennings and his wife, Joyce, of Tennessee, 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Zak.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield.  Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.  Friends may greet the family on Friday, Nov. 25, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
