A New York man introduced a new item to the drive-thru menu at Fairfields McDonalds -- marijuana. Police officers say Jonathan Deleon, 27, of the Bronx attempted a drug deal in the drive-thru lane of the fast food restaurant on the Post Road late Monday night.
The officers became suspicious when they saw Deleon in his car in the entrance lane of the restaurant after hours, talking on his cell phone. Police drove into the lot and asked him to pull into a parking space, which he did. While the officer was still in the lot, a blue van pulled into the drive-thru lane. Deleon got out of his car, approached the passengers side of the van, and had a conversation with the driver before taking a small paper bag from the driver.
After the van left, Deleon drove out of the lot with his taillights turned off, followed by the Fairfield Police. The officer pulled Deleon over and immediately smelled the odor of marijuana in the car. The officer found nearly an ounce of marijuana in the car after Deleon agreed to a search. The substance was divided into small plastic bags.
Police charged Deleon with possession of marijuana and intent to sell, plus the motor vehicle infraction for his taillights. He was held on $5,000 bond, and is due in court Jan. 25.
