FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Stressing that it is a nonpartisan issue, anti-smoking advocates are pushing for support of legislation that would raise the age adults can buy cigarettes from 18 to 21 in Connecticut, according to the Connecticut Post.

Many doubt the legislation will make it past the Finance Committee due to the potential revenue loss during the state's current budget woes, the Post said. But those who support the effort said money should not be the issue, but rather health, said the Connecticut Post.

The bill, if passed, would cost the state up to $43 million in annual revenue, according to an analysis. The legislation is currently being heard by the Public Health Committee, added the Connecticut Post.
