The land donation means a total of 131 acres of land in Fairfield within 22 separate preserves are now managed by the land trust and designated as protected open space.

The land has an appraised value of $564,300 and is zoned AAA for 2-acre zoning. It is crossed by Sasco Brook and is a mix of wetland and upland forest. It is bounded by stone walls and is in close proximity to the land trust’s nearby Kirik and Putnam Preserves.

There are no plans to put trails for hiking on the land or encourage public access. The land trust board of directors, in accepting the land donation from Jean B. Uehlinger, formerly of Fairfield, has designated it as a habitat-only location.

“We are very proud of the fact that the Aspetuck Land Trust has preserved over 1,700 acres of land in Fairfield, Easton, Weston and Westport. This land will be maintained in a natural state for perpetuity," Dick Ritzel of Easton, president Aspetuck Land Trust, said in a statement.

"Generous gifts like the one made by Jean Uehlinger limit development and help provide the community with clean air and water, food supply, wildlife habitats and places for recreation, reflection and pure scenic beauty. Donors receive attractive tax advantages in addition to the knowledge that they have made a gift that will help future generations forever.”
