Amy Carter Lyster, Active Fairfield Club Member

Amy Carter Lyster of Fairfield died April 6 at the age of 97. Lyster was an active member of many organizations around Fairfield, most notably as a co-founder of the Bridgeport branch of Planned Parenthood.

Lyster was born July 26, 1913, in Meriden. She graduated from Smith College in 1934. She married Philip Benton Lyster in 1941, and the two moved to their home in Greenfield Hill five years later. She worked in the personnel department of the Southern New England Telephone Co. for many years.

Lyster helped found Bridgeport Planned Parenthood, and supplied the group with her services as secretary for 20 years. She also was secretary for Bridgeport Family Services and the Smith College Club. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and served on the Board of Deaconesses for the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church. She was also a member of the English Literary Club and the Fairfield Beach Club, and she enjoyed playing tennis and bridge.

Lyster is survived by son Robert Lyster and wife Cassandra of New York City, son Benton Lyster and wife Dianne of Guilford; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, Saturday April 16, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the church. Donations in Lyster's memory can be made to the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield, CT 06824.
