The decision comes in the wake of a recent train derailment in Philadelphia, Pa., which killed eight people and injured 200.

The surveillance cameras will initially monitor conductors of trains traveling between Washington D.C. and Boston; New York City and Philadelphia; and New York City and Harrisburg, Pa., the Albany Times Union reported.

Eventually, Amtrak will install the cameras on all other northeastern trains, including those that travel between New York City and Albany, according to the Albany Times Union.
