Alleged Serial Arsonist Faces Charges in Easton

EASTON, Conn. – A Fairfield man who was arrested in September in connection with several area arson fires faces two additional charges in Easton after he admitted to Fairfield police he set a Dumpster and a boat on fire in town.

Christopher Message, 34, who is awaiting trial at Garner Correctional Facility in Newtown, was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and reckless burning earlier this week, Easton Police Capt. James Candee said.

Easton police received a 911 call on Sept. 3 at 12:26 a.m. from a Harvest Moon resident reporting a Dumpster on their property was on fire, Candee said. That blaze was put out by fire officials. No injuries were reported.

Another fire on the same day was reported to police by a Far Horizons Drive resident who told police that a small fire erupted on his boat on his property at about 1:30 a.m. That resident extinguished the fire himself and called police later in the day to report the incident. The Dumpster and the boat were an eighth of a mile from each other.

Message is awaiting trial for his alleged involvement in six other arson fires in Fairfield.
