An estimated 8,054 out of 21,876 customers in Fairfield were without power at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to United Illuminating reports. As of Saturday morning, UI had 41,000 out of 320,150 total customers who were without power after Hurricane Sandy swept in Monday.
“We have crews and resources working tirelessly in every one of the towns and cities we serve, and we expect to continue to make brisk progress in the days ahead,” said James P. Torgerson, UI’s chief executive officer, in a press release. “We want to thank our customers for their patience and support during this process. We will not be satisfied until every customer is restored.”
Hundreds of contractors and crews from out-of-state utilities joined UI in assisting with restoration efforts. UI officials asked residents to show support for those in the field.
“Our personnel, contractors and mutual-assistance partners from other utilities are working 16-hour shifts, often during nighttime hours, to bring electric service back to our customers,” said Anthony J. Vallillo, UI’s president and chief operating officer, in a press release. “Many residents may see trucks in their area restoring power that do not say UI, but rest assured they are here in Connecticut working on our behalf to restore power.”
