An estimated 553 out of 21,876 customers in Fairfield were without power at 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to United Illuminating reports.
As of Tuesday morning, UI had 2,564 out of 320,150 total customers who were without power after Hurricane Sandy swept in last week.
The United Illuminating Company, electric subsidiary of UIL Holdings Corporation, accomplished its goal of 95 percent of customers with electric service by Monday, according to a press release. UI announced its goal on Nov. 1 once it had an opportunity to get detailed damage assessment reports from its workers in the field.
“Damage assessment is a key component of every restoration process,” said Anthony J. Vallillo, UI’s president and chief operating officer, in a press release. “Without this necessary step, we wouldn’t have the data necessary to provide credible projections on restoration.”
Company officials have begun discussing its plans for the possible Nor’easter that is forecasted to impact Connecticut on Wednesday.
“We want our customers to know that we are carefully watching this new storm and planning accordingly,” said James P. Torgerson, UIL’s president and chief executive officer, in a press release. “We are also mindful that Tuesday is Election Day and we will be providing all employees and contractors the opportunity to vote.”
