- Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara was injured after his squad car was rear-ended at a red light near the intersection of Reef Road and Route 1 in the center of town in October.
- In June, a suspicious box with a painted face found on the Unquowa Road bridge stopped Metro-North train service for more than three hours. But the box was later identified as an abandoned project by a student at nearby Tomlinson Middle School.

The suicide of a 69-year-old man in his at 32 Clinton St. in Fairfield in April became an emergency Hazmat situation due to dangerous chemicals found inside the residence. Allan Banks drank a deadly mixture of potassium cyanide, and he left signs in the house directing first responders to where the deadly chemicals were in the home and a sign over them indicating what they were, police said.

A Fairfield resident reported to police that her personal information -- including her Social Security number -- may have been compromised in the Sony cyberattack that temporarily derailed the Seth Rogen and James Franco movie, “The Interview.”
- In the November election, Republican Tony Hwang of Fairfield was the victor in the hard-fought battle against Kim Fawcett to replace longtime state Sen. John McKinney in the 28th District.
