What's Happening in Fairfield This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A spring carnival, end-of-the-school-year student shows and a celebration of Mother Earth are just some of the activities on Fairfield’s calendar this weekend. Here’s a collection of some of the events in and around town over the next three days:

Friday, April 27

McKinley School Carnival: 6 to 10 p.m. The annual festival sponsored by the McKinley School PTA returns to Jennings Beach at the end of S. Benson Road. A $22 wristband buys a full night’s worth of rides. The carnival will also feature games and food by Chilibomb. It will also be open from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Fairfield University Orchestra Concert: 7:30 p.m. The Fairfield University Orchestra will perform a collection of pop and classical hits. Admission is free at Gonzaga Hall on the university’s campus, 1073 N. Benson Road.

Singer-songwriter Paula Cole in concert: 8 p.m. The Grammy Award-winning singer of “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?” performs at the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University, 1073 N. Benson Road. Tickets range from $35 to $45 and are available at the theater’s website.

Fairfield Ludlowe High School’s "Beauty and the Beast:" 8 p.m. The Fairfield Ludlowe Drama Club presents its annual spring musical, based on the Disney movie and Broadway play. Tickets are $8 at the door in the school’s auditorium, 785 Unquowa Road. Repeat performances are at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday, April 28

RTM District 4, 5, 6, and 7 constituents' meeting: 10 a.m. Members of Fairfield’s legislature, the Representative Town Meeting, from Districts 4, 5, 6 and 7 will gather to hear voters’ thoughts on the town’s spending and other issues. The meeting is in the cafeteria of McKinley School, 70 Thompson St.

Fairfield’s Earth Day celebration: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local vendors and environmental groups will set up booths, hold lectures and arrange fun activities for kids in the town’s 14th celebration of Earth Day. The event is free at Fairfield Warde High School, 755 Melville Ave.

Pet Awareness and Adoption Day: Noon to 3 p.m. The Beardsley Zoo hosts experts from local pet shelters and adoption agencies to give advice on adopting and caring for a new pet. The event is free with zoo admission ($10 for kids and $12 for adults) at 1075 Noble Ave. in Bridgeport.

A Broadway Celebration: 7:30 p.m. A collection of Sacred Heart University’s student choirs sing a medley of Broadway show tunes. Admission is free at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts, 5151 Park Ave.

Sunday, April 29

Fairfield Public Library book sale: 1 to 5 p.m. The Friends of the Fairfield Library will run a sale of the library’s old stock of books, CDs and DVDs to benefit its programs. The sale will take place during normal library hours at the Main Library (1080 Old Post Road). The sale will also run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Notre Dame High School open house: 2 p.m. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 or prospective transfers interested in Notre Dame High School have the opportunity to tour the school, meet teachers and administrators and learn about the school’s programs. The event is free at the school’s campus, 220 Jefferson St.
